WTM Africa 2017 proved to be a unique and exciting tradeshow for the industry. Herewith notable highlights from the show:

  • COFFEE SHACK TAKES TOP HONOURS AT RESPONSIBLE TOURISM AWARDS
We extend our BIG congratulations to TOMSA levy contributor Coffee Shack in the Eastern Cape for walking away as an overall winner at the African Responsible Tourism Awards at WTM Africa in Cape Town. Blood Lions was also announced as a joint overall winner. We wish them the best (and other South African winners) as they represent Africa at WTM London in 2018.  Click here to see a list of all the winners.

  • TOMSA TRAINING AT TOURVEST OFFICES – CT
While in the Cape, we took the opportunity to continue our TOMSA training to the trade on the ins-and-outs of collecting the TOMSA 1% levy. This time we visited Tourvest’s Cape Town office to brief their staff all about TOMSA, how it works, where it is allocated to and why it is so important to contribute! Contact us on membership@tbcsa.travel today so we can arrange a short TOMSA briefing for your staff.

  • FEDHASA Cape/WESGRO workshop to promote tourism in the Cape:
SA Tourism CEO presented at the event. Key highlights from the presentation, titled Hospitality: The Heartbeat of Tourism, include the following:
    • A new operating model based on a Marketing Investment Framework, with core and strategic markets has been identified.
    • A key focus for SAT is to inspire South Africans to travel domestically. This will be done by BUILDING the culture of travel; CONVERTING the travelling population to start taking holidays and DEFEND the existing holiday-makers to take more holidays.
    • Themes of immersion and authenticity are emerging as key trends.
    • I DO TOURISM tool kits will be available online for provinces and municipalities to download material to promote the initiative. Click here to view the presentation.
