Business Events Takes Centre Stage – What to expect at Meetings Africa

According to SANCB, South Africa hosted 140 international and regional meetings and conferences in 2015 that generated over R1bn to the economy. This performance saw South Africa being ranked 38th globally and listed as a top 15 global long-haul business events destination. The added benefit to hosting these types of events is that many who come to South Africa for business return again as leisure tourists often with their extended family.

Meetings Africa 2017 takes place from 28 February to 01 March 2017 at the Sandton ICC. The show has been established as the biggest, most represented and valuable business events tradeshow in Africa. To all levy contributors in the MICE market, this is what you can expect from this year’s show:

  • To date there have been 187 International Hosted Buyers; 52 African Associations and 48 Local Corporate Hosted Buyers confirmed to attend the show;
  • Top 10 countries represented:

USA; China; UK; India; UAE; Poland; France; Netherlands; Malaysia

  • A total of 18 African countries will be represented at the show

  • A Speed Marketing meet-up session where exhibitors can present their businesses to hosted buyers;
  • An SMME development zone geared towards the first time exhibitor;
  • In line with this year’s theme, a Sustainability Village will be erected where 6 local vendors will showcase their products;
  • In keeping with the sustainability theme, exhibitors will:
    - buy Renewable Energy Certificates to power stands,
    - be encouraged to turn off the power to their stands at the end of each day,
    - be encouraged to leave their lanyard on the lanyard tree at the end of the show, to re-use the lanyards at Meetings Africa 2018
