South African Tourism has collated the figures for the second quarter performance of tourist arrivals between April and June 2018.
International tourist arrivals to South Africa dropped by 1.3% in 2018 compared to the same period in 2017. The shift in Easter to the first quarter saw arrivals decline in April compared to 2017. Arrivals declined from across the globe while Russia saw growth leading up to and during the World Cup.
DOMESTIC SNAPSHOT
For the period between April to June 2018, the total number of domestic trips decreased by 14.9% compared to the same period in 2017.
Overall arrival statistics show a concerning decline in tourist numbers both domestically and internationally.
